T Shirt Printing Techniques

We use a variety of t-shirt printing methods depending on the design you submit and the quantity of t-shirts you order. Some methods are more suitable for large orders where each shirt has the same design, and some for orders where each shirt is different.

Plotter cut vinyl for crisp, clean edges

Plotter cut vinyl

  • Sharp, clear edges.
  • Excellent adhesion - moves with the garment, freely and naturally.
  • Only method allowing for effects such as metallic, glitter, holographic, foil and glow in the dark.
  • Wide choice of colours, that won't fade in the wash.

Excellent for lettering and logo designs on all cotton garments. With clear, sharp edges you won't suffer from the fuzziness you would get with screen printing, and with its superb adhesion to the garment you won't notice any difference in how the garment hangs or moves. Better still, vinyl printing has a wide choice of printing finishes, allowing you to have matt, metallics, foils, holographics, glitters and even glow in the dark! No other printing method gives such flexibility, and you'll love the choice of bright colours that don't fade in the wash.

This is the brightest and most vibrant printing technique available.

Print shading and gradients with direct to garment printing

Direct To Garment (DTG)

Direct to garment printing allows your design to printed directly onto the shirt and it supports transparency. This is a great way of avoiding the 'square print problem' all allows the texture of the t shirt to show through.

To use this method of printing, simply upload a PNG, making sure you have set transparent areas where you wish the shirt colour to show through.

Transfer printing on to light garments

Transfer Printing (Light Garments)

  • Most cost-effective full colour printing.
  • Melts onto the fabric - no surrounding boxes, and garment moves freely and naturally.
  • Great for logos, designs, images, text, and particularly effective for hand drawings.

A super cost-effective way of producing full-colour printing onto cotton garments. We strongly recommend this for white shirts (with the exception of white polos - see help and information) where the transfer material we use melts onto the fabric of the shirt; absolutely the best quality finish for any print up to A3 in size.

This method is ideal for photos, images, hand-drawn designs, and also works well for text, particularly if you are looking for shading or gradation in colour. There are no white-box issues with transfer printing in this way. It can also be used on light coloured tops, such as light blue, light pink, serene green, although any white in the original image will appear as the shirt colour and other colours may also be affected by the colouring of the shirt. An all-black design could also be printed using this method on darker bright coloured shirts, such as sapphire, heliconia, and irish green. Want to know more? Give us a call...

Transfer printing on to dark garments

Transfer Printing (Dark Garments)

  • Ideal for photos or rectangular designs.
  • Sits on top of the fabric

Full-colour transfer printing onto dark garments is absolutely possible, though the transfer material we have to use for this results in the design sitting on top of the shirt fabric, rather than melting onto it. White-boxes around designs are also a concern with this printing process. There are several ways of minimising or eliminating this problem: it may be possible for us to cut freehand around your design, or better still, it may be possible to convert your design into a vector format, which would allow it to be printed using the vinyl printing process described above.

Call and speak to one of our experts to find out more. Of course, if your image is naturally a square or rectangle (as a photo would be, for example) and you definitely want it on a dark garment, then this method is ideal, particularly for those one-off events like stag and hen-dos!

If you need a printing method that supports transparency, upload a PNG instead (see Direct To Garment above).

Embroidery adds a touch of class to bulk orders

Embroidery

Can be used with any type of fabric, not just cotton garments

The finish is sleek and professional, hardwearing and durable. Unlike the other printing methods, we can embroider onto any type of garment - cotton, polyester, fleece... the list is endless!

With almost 500 colours to choose from, and at least 20 shades of any common colour, embroidery allows you to create designs with aspect and texture, and all the threads use pantone colours so we are almost certain to be able to match your company logo requirements. We can print up to 16 different colours onto any one design, more than enough for even the most complicated of artwork.

There is a minimum order of 30 garments for embroidery, and all of them must have the same design.

Screen printing offers great value on large orders

Screen Printing

Screen printing offers the lowest per-garment cost, and is strong and durable. The downside is that each t-shirt needs to have the same print and there is minimum order of 30 garments. Screen-printing is also not suitable for urgent orders as the turnaround time is a couple of days.
