Frequently asked questions
Before calling or emailing us, why not check to see if your question has been answered below?
What is the difference between Flex and Flock?
Flex is a flat, matt effect material for your text. Not material like a curtain is made out of, but more like a vinyl. Flock is a textured, furry-effect material for your text, almost like felt.
What is the difference between Foil and Metallic?
Foil is a shiney, reflective material, which will behave like any foil (that is, it will crease if you put a sharp fold in it for example). Metallic, which is available in Silver or Gold, is like a matt effect foil. It is not reflective. The gold reminds me of a pound coin (sterling)
What is the difference between Glitter and Pearl?
The Glitter material is a glitter effect, but still has a smooth feel like flex. The Pearl actually has a glitter texture, and is therefore rough to the touch.
What is the difference between Holographic and Carbonium?
Holographic is, as the name suggests, a reflective material which catches the light and seems to sparkle as you move it. Carbonium also catches the light, but is more matt and has a cross-hatch effect.
Will my image print well?
If you have uploaded a high quality image, then it will print excellently. I am not a computer expert, but the computer whizz here tells me that if your image is over 600 by 600 pixels it should print fine up to A4 size. If you right click with your mouse on the image, you can look at the Properties of it, and should be able to find out how what size it is.
If it has fewer than this, you need to know that it may well look pixelated (dotty or blocky in my language) if you re-size it. If you print it out at home and it looked fine in its original size, then keeping it that size should mean it will print fine. Please remember that it will not be checked but will get automatically printed, so you really need to be sure you are going to be happy with it before you order. When you sign off your order, we have your authority to print it as you have requested ? it is your choice!
Remember, the t-shirt on the screen is much smaller than a t-shirt in real life!
Can I put text over images?
Yes, you can! If you do this, it will automatically be included and printed as part of the image, so it will not be in Flex or one of the other materials.
If you want text to start above the image, and end up on it, then you need to realise that it will look different on the shirt than on the image.
Can I print black onto black, white onto white etc?
We trust you know what you are doing when you place your order, so if you ask us to print black onto a black shirt, we will. We do not think you will like it though! Remember that your monitor might be displaying colours differently to how they appear in real life, so while it may look okay on your screen, it probably will not give you the effect you wanted. Unless you did not want your text to be seen of course!
When I add a different size, will my image change size too?
Yes, your images and text will adjust automatically to look the same on each.
Do you use transfers?
Absolutely! They work really well, and help keep costs low for you. They are the reason we can do one-off customised garments with images!
What size shirt should I use?
When you go shopping on the high street, the sizes vary from shop to shop. That is normal, you just get used to it, and you try them on.
Now you are buying over the internet that luxury is not there. So we have provided you with detailed sizing information, based on information we have from our manufacturer.
Please note that sizing guidance given next to the shirts is on a TO FIT basis, so the shirt will be larger than the actual measurement given. (Think about it; if you measure 38 inches round, you would want a shirt to be bigger than that or it would be skin-tight!)
Another point to help regards the womens longer length tops. They are VERY stretchy, and are designed to be very fitted (i.e. tight). Their actual (unworn) measurements are significantly smaller than the same sizes in other tops.
What do the measurements mean?
The guidance measurements given next to the shirts are supposed to represent what size person they fit. They are not the actual measurements of the garment itself, which naturally need to be larger than the person they are designed to fit.
Will the colour look just like it does on the screen?
Everyones monitor is different, and shows colours differently. We have made sure that the difference between the colours is accurately reflected, but we cannot guarantee that the colour you see will be the same as the real life colour. It depends on your individual computer settings (brightness, contrast etc.).
You can trust, however, that blues will look blue and greens will look green! Do not let the more unusual colour names like Berry fool you. The Berry is a deep pink, like a Fuschia colour. Obviously, we have to use the names provided by the manufacturers.
Why do I have to sign off my order?
The information you provide is used to automatically produce the artwork for your shirt. It will not be checked by us, so we want you to be really sure that you are happy with everything you have done.
Signing off your order gives us the authority to print it as you have requested. It means you are happy with the choices you have made and are giving us permission to make it just like that.
We trust your judgement, so if you want black printed onto black, or a really pixelated image, you can!
Why is there a white box around my image? Will it show?
If you have uploaded an image with a background onto a coloured top, then it will show. You will particularly notice this if your image is not square or rectangular. This is because we use transfers for our images, which work really well and are the reason we are able to make your one-off customised top!
If you upload an image with a white or clear background onto a white top*, we have a special transfer that works only on white to let us give you a design without surround.
*(excluding polo shirts, which do not like the special transfer.)
How do I print a transparency?
Choose a white top* and we can use our special transfers. Make sure the background of your image is white.
*(excluding polo shirts, which do not like the special transfer.)
Why am I unable to make my text any smaller?
We use a machine called a Plotter to plot and cut out the text for your top. It has a lower limit on cutting size, which means that text can only go so small. Certain fonts have much thinner lines than others, so the Plotter would not be able to cope with these ones too small.
Why is one font more expensive than another?
Some fonts are noticeably more complicated than others, with many parts needing weeding for each letter. (Weeding is where we pick off all the material that you do not want pressed to your shirt, leaving just the text you do want.) This means some text takes a ridiculously long time to get looking right. Naturally, we need to look after our Weeders!
Where are my exclamation marks?!
Clever fonts are made by humans, just like you and me, and humans sometimes do not think of everything! Some fonts only have characters available for the letters, but nothing to represent the punctuation marks. When this is the case, you will just see a rectangular box, and you need to know this WILL be printed.
If you do not want this box to appear, then delete the character, or you could try a different font. There are so many fonts to choose from, you are almost certain to find another that you like.
Why is my feedback not showing?
We love it when our customers take their time to tell us how we have done. All of the feedback received feeds into our average rating, except for feedback withdrawn after issues have been resolved. We do not show feedback containing identifiable information, or rude, offensive or misleading statements, although these do count towards the average rating shown. Feedback is shown at random and we do receive a lot, so you might not be able to see yours.
Why does Glitter Silver look so dark?
Whereas the other glitters use the colour name as their base, and have a glittery effect over them, the Glitter Silver has black as a base, with a silver glittery effect over it.
Is Denim text really made from denim?
No, it is a material for your texts and designs that has the effect of denim. It looks like faded jeans.
