Long, linear earrings and trends
The latest fashionable earrings are straight and simple. In contrast to the costume jewelry trend come these 1920’s inspired creations. These ear baubles are usually linear pieces of metal that hang from an inch below your earlobe to just above your shoulder. They are usually flat and catch the light as they rotate casually. These earrings look great on someone with long, straight hair. They also tend to complement people with a long, narrow jaw line. But the ultimate truth is that they can look great on anyone. Diminutive and dramatic, these linear earrings are beautiful accents for any face.
Linear earrings have been an organic evolution of the teardrop earring trend. Teardrop earrings are also long and linear but they are usually adorned at the end with a small bead or gem. These subtle dangles are quiet, sophisticated, and have been popular for decades. Now jewelry designers are discarding the drop and simply going with the tear. These linear earrings look effortless and graceful. They are usually extremely lightweight and flatter almost every face.
Another jewelry trend that is taking off right now is mesh. Granted, mesh has a reputation for being rather cheaply made and uncouth when it comes to clothing, but what about mesh made of gold? This style is called precious mesh and it is applied to everything from headbands to chokers and bracelets. Gold and silver mesh are lightweight and seem soft to the touch rather than their solid metal counterparts which can seem cold and harsh. Women look sexy and accessible with the finely woven jewelry on their arms and necks.
Another new jewelry trend that goes in tandem with precious mesh is the way designers are beginning to favor simple metals like wire. Thin strands of wire have started holding up metals and stones as precious as gold and diamonds. Something about the contrast between basic, skinny wire and fancy jewels is very compelling. The look is very modern and lightweight. If you wear a necklace of multiple strands of wires interlaced with beads or pearls, it looks almost as though the baubles are dangling there of their own accord. Wire can also dangle a single, fashionable pendant or charm and bring simple, yet modern appeal to a standard piece of jewelry.
