Printing methods

What method do you use for printing designs onto garments?
Can I print white on white, black on black etc?
Will the colour look exactly as it does on my screen?
Where are my exclamation marks?
How does my artwork get sized?
What is plotter based printing?
What is transfer printing (dark garments)?
What is transfer printing (light garments)?
What are the advantages of embroidery?

What method do you use for printing designs onto garments?
We use different printing techniques for different designs:

1. Plotter cut shapes
This technique allows us to make precise cut designs using flex or flock or one of our many other material choices. This method of printing stands out the best, has sharp, clear lines and makes the biggest impact from a distance.

2. Full colour transfers.
When you want a full colour image on your top, this is the method we use. Images are printed onto transfers, and transfered to the garment by heat press. Please bear this in mind when designing your own garment. Printing transparent areas of an image is not always possible. When printing onto a white garment then you can upload PNG or GIF files with transparency and we can print them with transparency. When working with white polos and all other colours, images will contain no transparent areas.
Images onto white shirts can be printed up to A4 in size, allowing transparency. Images onto white polos or any coloured garments can be printed up to A3 in size using the other transfer material. Images larger than A4 on a white shirt will be printed with the coloured shirt transfer material, and any white surround will be visible.
If you require complicated shapes with transparent areas why not consider flex or flock? For a one-off artwork fee of £19.99 one of our graphic designers can take a look at your design to see if it will work. Call us on 0113 320 3122 to take advantage of this.

3. Embroidery
Embroidery is the art of stitching your design onto the shirt using our high-tech computerised embroidery machines. The finish is sleek and professional, hardwearing and durable. Considered by many as the only professional looking finish for a design, it is the obvious choice for your workwear, sports kits and uniforms.

Can I print white on white, black on black etc?
We print shirts exactly as ordered. If you place black text on a black shirt, even though it is unlikely to be visible, it will get printed.
Artwork is printed automatically - it will not be checked.

Will the colour look exactly as it does on my screen?
All monitors are different, and show colours differently, We have made sure that the difference between the colours is accurately reflected, but we cannot guarantee that the colour you see will be the same as the real life colour. It depends on your individual computer settings (brightness, contrast etc.).

Where are my exclamation marks?
Some fonts only have characters available for the letters, but nothing to represent the punctuation marks. When this is the case, you will just see a rectangular box, and you need to know this WILL be printed. If you do not want this box to appear, then delete the character, or you could try a different font. There are so many fonts to choose from, you are almost certain to find another that you like.

How does my artwork get sized?
The artwork is automatically generated from the design you provide, so the sizing is decided by you. We do it exactly as you design, and don't alter it in any way. Do note that the top you design on is being worn, so the design area available is the normal visible area when worn. It would be very unusual to want text or images going round the side of the shirt.

Also, the women's longer length tops are designed to be tight and stretch around the body, so the designs will seem smaller before you put the shirt on.

What is plotter based printing?
Flex or flock printing is the highest quality and most durable print available for garments. With several types of materials available (such as silver, glitter, flock and much, much more), this vinyl like material is most suitable for printing logos and vector images with a limited number of colours. Plotter cut shapes can be sized to be as large as you want, within the design area.

- Suitable for logos or vector artwork
- Excellent quality print
- Huge selection of material types and colours
- Very vibrant and durable output
- Not suitable for images involving gradients

What is transfer printing (dark garments)?
Transfer printing is suited to printing photographs or any other type of image onto a coloured garment. If you have a photograph or a full colour image, and you would like your design on a coloured garment, then this is the most suitable solution for you. Transfer printing is available at the maximum size of A3.

- Suitable for photos and full colour images
- Suitable for boxed images or images colour background
- Not ideal for logos or single colour prints

What is transfer printing (light garments)?
We can use a special printing process called hot transfer for images with a white background (available only on white garments, and not available on white polos). This process bleeds the design into the material of the garment, giving a much cleaner print. The white areas in the t-shirt effectively become the t-shirt material, giving you a transparent transfer print. This transfer type is available at the maximum size of A4.

- Print full colour images without backgrounds
- Suitable for all types of images with white background
- Select a transfer print design from the hundreds available
- Print limited to A4 size
What are the advantages of embroidery?
Embroidery gives you the professional look you require for your work uniforms, team shirts, school uniforms etc, whilst also being the height in latest fashion for your own design catwalk look!

Embroidery is the art of stitching your design onto the shirt using our high tech computerised embroidery machines. The finish is sleek and professional, hardwearing and durable. Considered by many as the only professional looking finish for a design, it is the obvious choice for your workwear, sports kits and uniforms.

Our state of the art embroidery machines stitch up to 1000 stitches a minute with absolute accuracy, and can stitch in up to 16 different colours for any one design. That gives incredible flexibility, and with nearly 500 colours to choose from, allows for shading and complexity you just can't get with other types of t-shirt printing.

Unlike other printers, here at Streetshirts, we don't charge any setup or artwork fees. We think you should be able to see one clear price for your order, and we're confident it's a price you'll love!

Images

What process do you use for printing images?
How large can you print my image?
Will my image print well?
Why is there a white box around my image? Will it show?
How do I print a transparency?

What process do you use for printing images?
Images are printed onto transfers, and transfered to the garment by heat press. This is particularly effective on white t-shirts, where we are able to use a transfer that removes any white from the image, and the ink is melted onto the fabric of the shirt. White polos and all coloured shirts use a different transfer, that lies on top of the material. Any boxes around images will show on these.

How large can you print my image?
Images onto white shirts can be printed up to A4 in size, using the transfer that will remove any white surround and melt onto the fabric of the shirt. Images onto white polos or any coloured garments can be printed up to A3 in size using the other transfer material. Images larger than A4 on a white shirt will be printed with the coloured shirt transfer material, and any white surround will be visible.

Will my image print well?
We print the image exactly as you give it to us. If you have uploaded a high-quality image then it will print well. An image of 600 x 600 pixels should print fine up to A4 in size. (This information is contained within the properties of the image.) If you enlarge an image of low quality, with fewer than 600 x 600 pixels, then it will appear pixelated when printed out, even though it may look fine when placed on the shirt on your screen. Artwork is printed automatically - it will not be checked.

Why is there a white box around my image? Will it show?
If you upload an image without a background, it will appear on your shirt with a white box around it. Onto white t shirts, upto A4 in size, this white will not show. Onto white polos or all coloured garments, whatever the size, this white surround will show. What you see in the basket is what will be printed.

How do I print a transparency?
Transparent images can currently only be printed onto white t-shirts and hoodies, providing the image is less than A4 in size. Got a logo? For a one-off fee of £19.99 one of our graphic designers can look at it to see if it is something we can work with in flex. Please call us on 0113 320 3122 to take advantage of this.

Garment sizing

What size shirt should I use?
What do the measurements mean?

What size shirt should I use?
We have provided you with detailed sizing information, based on information we have from our manufacturer. Please note that sizing guidance given next to the shirts is on a TO FIT basis, so the shirt will be larger than the actual measurement given.

The women's longer-length tops are VERY stretchy, and are designed to be very fitted (i.e. tight).

Their actual (unworn) measurements are significantly smaller than the same sizes in other tops.

What do the measurements mean?
The guidance measurements given next to the shirts are supposed to represent what size person they fit. They are not the actual measurements of the garment itself, which naturally need to be larger than the person they are designed to fit.

Delivery

What delivery method do you use?
How much do you charge for delivery?
What's the difference between dispatch and delivery?
What are the normal delivery times?
Can I have it quicker?
What do I do if my goods haven't arrived?
What are your dispatch times?

What delivery method do you use?
We use Royal Mail, and send all our parcels first class as standard.

How much do you charge for delivery?
Standard delivery to the UK is £2.95. Guaranteed delivery options are available during checkout for an additional charge.

What's the difference between dispatch and delivery?
Dispatch refers to the period of time it takes for us to make your customised product and pass it to the postal service or courier for delivery.
This is different to the delivery time, which is how long the delivery service takes to get the package from our offices to your home.

What are the normal delivery times?
We try our best to get your order to you as soon as possible. After dispatch, our standard delivery (Royal Mail First Class) typically arrives the next day in the UK, in 6 days to the EU and 10 days worldwide. It is important to note that delivery times are out of our control, as we do not deliver the goods ourselves.

Can I have it quicker?
Yes you can. When you checkout, select the Special Delivery option. Special delivery, offered through Royal Mail, can help to guarantee that you receive the ordered good by a particular day. The additional charge for special delivery depends on the number of garments that you order, as well as their weight. Special delivery for Saturday carries an additional charge of £3 on top of the existing prices. By going with the special delivery option, we will be provided with a tracking number, which can be used on the Royal Mail website to track your parcel in transit.
While special delivery is a very secure form of delivery, Streetshirts cannot be held responsible for any parcels lost or delayed, as service is run and controlled directly by Royal Mail.
Special delivery is only available on parcels being delivered within the UK.

What do I do if my goods haven't arrived?
Whilst Royal Mail normally deliver all first class post within 1-2 working days, they can on occasion take longer. In the unlikely event that your goods do not arrive, allow 14 days before calling us. We cannot authorise any remakes before this time has passed as Royal Mail have been known to deliver within this time.
If you paid to have special delivery, contact us immediately as we can provide you with the tracking reference to chase it with Royal Mail.

What are your dispatch times?
Our dispatch times are the best on the web.

If you order a stock item before 2pm Mon-Fri, we aim to dispatch it the same day. If you order a non-stock item before 2pm Mon-Thurs, we aim to dispatch it the following day.

Stock item orders over the weekend are generally dispatched on Monday, and non-stock items ordered over the weekend on Tuesday.

Returns

What is your policy on returns?
The top is larger/smaller than I expected, can I return it?
The top isn't the colour I expected, can I return it?
The image is pixelated, can I return it?
My garment is faulty, how do I return it?
I expected the artwork to be a different size, can I return it?

What is your policy on returns?
We make all the shirts especially for you. As they are customised just for you, we cannot accept them for return unless they are faulty or your instructions have not been followed. We cannot re-sell your garment. Refunds will be made against the original form of tender.

The top is larger/smaller than I expected, can I return it?
If we have sent you the wrong size garment, we will absolutely remake it for you in the right size when you return it. If we have sent you the garment you ordered though, we will not be able to accept it for return as we have made it just for you. We do provide sizing information on the site, which acts as a guide when choosing your size.

The top isn't the colour I expected, can I return it?
If we have accidently sent you the wrong colour, you can absolutely return it and we will remake it for you. If we have sent you the colour you ordered, however, we cannot accept it for return as it has been made just for you. The colours on screen all have names which appear when you select them, and the colour is also written next to your shirt in your basket. Please do check these carefully, as colours can appear differently on different monitors.

The image is pixelated, can I return it?
Unfortunately not. We print the image exactly as you give it to us, and if your image is not of a high quality that is a shame, but is ultimately down to you. Our process is automatic, and artwork doesn't get checked. Please see our FAQs on images for more information.

My garment is faulty, how do I return it?
Log in to your account and click on "Order History". Select the order you would like to return and click the button marked "Request Return" to display a returns form. This returns form is available for 8 days following the dispatch of your order. Package the merchandise to prevent damage, enclosing this completed form. Send the merchandise using registered post or other secure method of delivery, retaining the receipt until you have received credit for your return. Proof of posting is not proof of delivery.

Please note that the return costs are not pre-paid. Postage or other return costs will be the customer's responsibility and will be reimbursed by us only in the case of damaged, faulty or incorrectly supplied goods. In cases where we do refund return postage, we will only refund the cost of standard Royal Mail registered post. If you choose to use any enhanced return option, such as Special Delivery, this will be at your expense. You must return the goods, together with their packaging, in the same condition as supplied to you. Returns are sent at your risk.

I expected the artwork to be a different size, can I return it?
The artwork is automatically generated from the design you provide, so the sizing is decided by you. We do it exactly as you design, and don't alter it in any way. Do note that the top you design on is being worn, so the design area available is the normal visible area when worn. It would be very unusual to want text or images going round the side of the shirt.

Also, the women's longer length tops, as mentioned in the sizing FAQs, are designed to be tight and stretch around the body, so the designs will seem smaller before you put the shirt on.

These bad boys are inspired by Henry Holland's spring/summer catwalk show and we love them! The polka dots and floral prints will keep us going until we can get our hands on the real thing. Get clicking!

The Pink Paper - Dec 2008
It's me, your comedy partner...when the people of Streetshirts told us they could design any t-shirt, hoodie or top we could think of, the very first thing that sprung to mind was a BBC sweater, as modelled by Jennifer Saunders in oh so many a classice sketch. Sadly they don't do matching turbins...Nip over to their website and you can design-or imitate-any look you want, in fact, the website is almost like a game, albeit a game where you end up with some rather snazzy (and actually high quality) clobber at the end of it. And it's addictive-we went a little crazy and ordered ''I love Same Difference'' t-shirt as well. Though maybe we were crazy before, who can say.

Evening Leader - Jan 2009
Get your pristene fashion fingers at the ready and design your own tee digitally via Streetshirts - no fabric glue or sewing needles required. Whether you want to copy a catwalk look or create a slogan style a la Henry Holland, this is the site to get your creative juices flowing. You pick the style and the colour of tee and then customise away. If you're stuck there's even a Streetshirts blog for some fashionable inspiration. Prices start from £17 with free delivery. Visit www.streetshirts.co.uk

Glamour Magazine - July 2009
The big tease...she's the feisty brunette bombshell whose hit anthem had us puckering up for our galpals last summer and guess what? She like our tees! Katy Perry was pictured in the July issue of Glamour sporting an aptly styled 'hot kiss' t-shirt!

The Banter - June 2009
Featured in The Banters' festival survival guide.
